File Formats

At RTP Signs & Graphics, we have invested in the latest in sign making and computer technology. This allows us to accept a variety of graphics files (both PC and MAC). The following is a listing of most of the files we can accept:

Postscript

We can accept most postscript files. Our sign making program utilizes a Level 3 Postscript Interpreter and is able to open most .eps formats. All we ask is that you convert all your text to outlines, paths or curves (depending on the program you use). If this is not possible, our graphics staff will need to scan and clean-up, or recreate the file. If this is necessary, additional art charges may apply

Vector

Files must be vectorized in order for us to utilize them for vinyl cut signage. This means that all fonts must be converted to outlines or paths (depending on the program the file was created in). Here are some of the vector graphic file types we can accept: Adobe Illustrator (.ai) up to version 7; CorelDraw (.cdr) up to version 11; AutoCad (.dxf, .dwg). Please convert all text to outlines, paths or curves (depending on the program you use). Other files may also be accepted, contact our graphics department to be certain if we can import your vector file.

Bitmaps

We can import a variety of bitmap images including: TIFF, BMP, Mac PICT, Adobe Photoshop (.psd), Corel Photo Paint (.cpt), Kodak Photo Disc (.pcd), and Targa (.tga). Other bitmap files may also be accepted, contact our graphics department to be sure. Files we will not accept are JPEG and GIF. These file formats are normally utilized in website production and will not reproduce well in vinyl signmaking or digital printing.
When providing us with a bitmap image, we ask that the resolution of your bitmap be no less than 300x300 dpi (600 dpi is best for digitally printed signs). RGB or CMYK will be accepted. Please do not send us any files that have been converted to Grayscale, 8-bit Paletted, or Black and White.

Scanning
